Terms

These are the terms for using Benji, a personal AI companion you text. Benji is operated by Skynet Ventures (“we”). By using Benji you agree to them. They are meant to be plain and fair; if something here is unclear, ask us at hello@benji.bot.

A beta, by invitation

Benji is in beta and is offered by invitation, in the United States. It is free during the beta, with limits on how much each person can use. It will change, features may come and go, and it may be unavailable at times. We may end the beta or withdraw an invitation, and we will tell you first where we reasonably can.

Who can use it

You must be 18 or older and have been invited. Your Benji is for you alone: one account per person, tied to the phone number you text from. Keep your security phrase to yourself.

What Benji does, and your say

Benji acts on what you ask. Anything that spends your money, speaks for you to someone else or shares your information with another person’s Benji needs your approval first: each time, with its code, or under a standing approval you gave for exactly that kind of action. You are responsible for what you approve, so read an approval before you give it.

Benji is an AI. It can be wrong, and it tells you when it is unsure. Check anything that matters before you rely on it. Benji is not a doctor, a lawyer or a financial adviser, and it is not an emergency service: in an emergency call 911.

Your content

What you tell Benji is yours. You give us permission to handle it only as far as running Benji for you requires. We do not sell it, and we do not use it to train models. The privacy page says what is kept, where, and who else handles it.

Accounts you connect

When you connect an account such as Google, you authorize Benji to use it for you within the access you granted. Those services have their own terms, and they still apply to you.

What is not allowed

Messages

By texting Benji you agree to receive its replies, and the reminders, briefs and updates you ask it for. Message and data rates may apply. Text STOP to Benji’s number to stop its iMessage and SMS messages to you, and START to resume them.

Ending

You can delete your account at any time, and you get a receipt for it. We may suspend or end an account that breaks these terms or puts others, or the service, at risk.

The fine print

Benji is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind, as far as the law allows. As far as the law allows, Skynet Ventures is not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential losses, and its total liability to you is limited to the greater of 100 US dollars or what you paid for Benji in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits a right the law does not let you give up.

These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and of the state in which Skynet Ventures is established, which this page will name before public launch.

Changes and contact

When these terms change in a way that matters, Benji tells you in your conversation before the change applies; if you keep using Benji after that, you accept the new terms. Skynet Ventures can be reached at hello@benji.bot.
